Teacher Appreciation

The goal of the teacher appreciation is to help coordinate efforts within the classrooms to show our thanks for the hard work that the teachers do in helping our children. We ALWAYS appreciate more volunteers and ideas. Here are the key events planned for 2003-04.

Material Building Days - ongoing
Our teachers spend a tremendous amount of time preparing for the work in the classroom. To assist them in this effort and free up more time for them to spend with the children, we are scheduling Material Building Days once a month to allow interested parents to help create the materials that are used in the classroom. Volunteers are welcome for any and all sessions. They will be held the 3rd Friday of each month from 1-2:30 in the Yellow House (the Music Room) on the Peck Campus. If you have time, please come down and help.

Parent volunteers are encouraged to come and help cut, trim, paste-whatever is needed to help teachers prepare materials for use in classroom lessons and crafts. It is a lot of fun to do this work with other parents and is a great help to teachers.
Bring your favorite CD and join us for some cutting, pasting and coloring. Here are the dates:

Fri, Sept 19
Fri, Oct 17
Fri, Nov 14
Fri, Jan 16
Fri, Feb 20
Fri, Mar 19
Fri, Apr 16

If those days do not work for you, you can always contact your child's teacher to offer your assistance.

Teacher Appreciation Week - May
May 6, 2004 is National Teacher Day, a time for honoring teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives. That first full week of May is designated Teacher Appreciation Week by the National PTA. Our committee plans to assist the parents in each classroom to organize events that will strengthen support and respect for our own fantastic teachers and the teaching profession in general.

Teacher Wish Lists - December
It's always tough to think of a really useful teacher gift for the holiday. The Teacher Appreciation group polled each teacher to see what Scrip certificates they might enjoy (say from Blockbuster, Macy's, restaurants, etc.). These lists were supplied to parents to help ease the holiday guesswork.

Teacher's Workday Lucheon - End of year
We hosted a potluck lunch for the teachers on the day after school ended last year (June). Parents brought salads, entrees, desserts and lots of yummies for the teachers to ensure that they had a good meal as they prepared the classrooms for the next year. Our plan is to continue this event this year and perhaps host other luncheon days to help the teachers.
